Jon DiPietro Joins Girard at Large Radio Program with “Web Savvy” Segment

Manchester, NH (PRWEB) January 30, 2013

Girard at LargeWhen it comes to raising kids, advancing a career or marketing a business, the World Wide Web and Social Media can be a great asset or a fatal flaw. Many parents are unaware that girls are twice as likely to be bullied on Facebook as boys. Job seekers should know that 89% of companies use social media to support their recruiting efforts. Many business owners don’t realize that Google makes more than 8,000 adjustments to its search algorithm every year. The web is a complex, fast moving machine and a firm grasp of how it works can prevent disaster and help you achieve your goals more quickly.

These are the topics of discussion that will be featured on the new Web Savvy segment to be featured every Thursday morning at 6:40AM on the Girard at Large program, which is broadcast on 90.7 FM WLMW in Manchester, NH. Jon DiPietro will demonstrate his knack for making technology accessible and understandable. Parents will learn how to keep their kids safe online. Job seekers will find out how to take advantage of social media to maximize their career development opportunities. And business owners will discover tips and tricks for finding more customers online.

Jon DiPietro is a Certified Inbound Marketing Professional and author of “Social Media for Engineers and Scientists.” He is the Founder and Principal of Domesticating IT, an inbound marketing blog and consultancy and co-founder ofCareerGravity.com, an educational website that teaches job seekers how to market themselves online.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Rich Girard every week and talking about Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and whatever the latest, greatest developments are on the web,” DiPietro said. “I think that that social media is often overhyped and frequently underestimated at the same time. I hope to separate fact from fiction and give people a better understanding of how to use these tools for their own benefit.”

Girard at Large host Rich Girard commented, “Jon’s personality comes right through the radio making him an interesting ‘listen.’ Even better, his genius on the subject is matched by his ability to make it simple for non-technical guys like me to get it and that’s very important in today’s day and age. Jon’s a great addition to our adorable little radio show and we’re proud to have him in the line up!”

Broadcast on WLMW 90.7 FM New Hampshire Family Radio, the Girard at Large show’s mission is simple; to connect local people, places and things. “News from our own backyard” is their motto. Led by Manchester native Richard H. Girard, a widely recognized and respected local public figure, Girard at Large is a unique program that not only discovers and uncovers what’s happening within the Greater Manchester area, but also gives its audience the opportunity to share what it knows.

The Girard at Large Radio Show can be streamed live from GirardAtLarge.com where show archives are also available.

Work History

I like to describe my work history as a journey up the “information food chain.”  I began my career as an instrumentation and controls engineer, designing and maintaining automated machine control systems.  As technology advanced, I became more involved in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, interfacing with them to build ever more advanced data collection and reporting systems.  Eventually, I transitioned into developing enterprise software and database applications (primarily focused in areas of process and quality control).

About Me

I’ve been building stuff since I was a kid (Lego fanatic) and wanted to be an engineer since before most kids my age even knew what that was.  It’s my creative outlet and the reason why I still enjoy writing code and building web sites to this day.  I am currently the owner of three (yes, three) companies; Bridge-SoftDomesticating IT and #CareerGravity.  I live in Manchester, NH with my lovely bride Laurie and our four daughters, Amanda, Jacqueline, Paige, and Jenna.

See my online profile: Jon DiPietro BrandYourself.

Professional Overview

My professional mantra is “domesticating Internet technology.”  I show businesses and individuals how to create loud, disruptive, permanent digital footprints.

Biography (Short and Painless Version)

School Days

I’m a proud graduate of Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Lowell in 1990.

Engineering Days

My first engineering position came before graduation when, working as an AutoCAD draftsman for Plastics Forming Enterprises I was asked to fill in for the project’s electrical controls engineer when he left abruptly.  Soon after, I went to work as a facilities engineer for Polyclad Laminates where I had a tremendous experience working with a wide variety of automation systems and technologies; human machine interfaces (HMI), programmable logic controllers (PLC), variable speed drives (VSD), PID loop controllers, high speed vision systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.  After four years, I returned to work at Plastics Forming Enterprises where I began my software development career in earnest, working on data logging andexpert reporting systems for injection molding and beverage bottling companies.

Entrepreneurial / Software Developer Days

In 1997, I co-founded Bridge-Soft with Eric Hinton.  Founded initially as a consulting services company, we landed a contract with Shipley Company to develop a Quality Management System and Bridge-Soft’s cornerstone product was born.  The project was completed just in time for a recession and so the company was re-engineered to enter the water/wastewater industry after winning a contract to provide Goulburn Valley Water in Shepparton, Australia with QMS to manage their operational and compliance data.

In 2008, I founded Domesticating IT, an inbound marketing consultancy offering a range of services that will increase qualified visits to your website and convert more leads into customers. These services include CMS-based website design, blog integration, search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing strategy, lead capturing and nurturing systems and web analytics.

In 2012, I co-founded #CareerGravity with Brent Skinner. This member website offers advice and guidance to professionals so that they can apply the principals of inbound marketing to their own professional career development plans.

JonDiPietro dot com

This web site is built using WordPress and if you’re curious about how it was put together, I have a blog post on Domesticating IT that describes the process in detail, “Create a Compelling Resume Online With WordPress.”

One of my new year’s resolutions was to get my online identity sorted out, which means making the most of the available tools and delivering a consistent message. After taking inventory of the various professional sites to which I belong (e.g. LinkedIn, VisualCV), I decided that I needed an aggregator to take charge and deliver my message, my way, in my style. I had registered my own name as a domain many years ago but not done anything with it, and so I decided to use WordPress to tell my professional story.

What Are the Benefits?

  • If you think about your career as a product that you’re selling, wouldn’t it make perfect sense to have a web site? Of course it does, and you want your personal brand to have the same benefits:
  • More and more, clients and employers are performing online searches to learn more about the people with which they are considering to engage. Having a search engine friendly web site makes it more likely they will find you.
  • Indexing your experience through the use of keywords makes it easy for people to zero in on the skills and/or expertise in which they’re interested (more about that later).
  • Multimedia capabilities (i.e. images, video, presentations, links) make it easier for you to tell your story in a vivid and interesting way.
  • You can use specialized links to direct people to specific content areas of your profile.
  • While this practice may soon be common place, for the moment at least it will help you to stand out from the crowd.
